Analyst: Howard Stern-Sirius XM Contract Worth $400 Million
Lazard Capital Markets analyst Barton Crockett in a first reaction estimated that the deal is likely consistent with his expectations and consistent with the cash payments Stern has received in his first Sirius deal, but the shock jockey likely loses the stock portion of his compensation.
Wall Street analysts wondered though if Stern may work only three instead of four days a week given that he had expressed an interest in scaling back his time commitment.
"We have been modeling that Stern would remain, as part of flattish overall programming costs, whereby Stern continues to receive $80 million cash per year, consistent with his former deal expiring at year-end," Crockett said. "We had also assumed no stock, a step down from the $100 million, five-year stock component of the former deal."
Either way, Wall Street reacted positively to the news of the contract renewal, which observers argued will allow Sirius to maintain its recent subscriber momentum without overpaying. Plus, it gives the company the right to get Stern onto mobile devices. The stock was up 6.4% at $1.40 in early trading.
"This is a net positive for Sirius," said Joyce: "This talent retention should salvage Sirius' subscriber...[and financial] growth."

Jenni Lyn Watson Dead: Steven Pieper Arrested
Saturday, November 27, 2010
The case started about 8 days ago when shortly after her return home from school Jenni Lyn was reported missing. It is believed by the investigators in this case that she was killed at her parents home and brought to a wooded area in Clay Town Park where her body was found today. Steven Pieper was the prime suspect from the start in the Jenni Lyn Watson disappearance and now murder. Steven Pieper appeared in court today and filed a plea of not guilty to the charge of second degree murder in the case of Jenni Lyn Watson.
The 2 had been dating on and off for about a year and a half when this past October Jenni Lyn decided to end the relationship for good. It appears as though Mr. Pieper did not agree with the break up and went after Miss Watson. Her remains have been sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy on Sunday and Steven Pieper will remain in custody until his next court appearance on December 3rd. Jenni Lyn Watson was a promising young dancer who’s life has been taken to soon by her ex boyfriend Steven Pieper.

Notre Dame football: Bowl picture only a little clearer
The absurdity of Notre Dame's bowl situation was underscored by the fact that both Boise State's upset loss to Nevada and a game between two hyphenated Louisiana schools on Saturday (UL-Monroe and UL-Lafayette) actually tinkered with their bowl picture.
Of course, the score that mattered most in the equation was the one the Irish were directly involved with - their rivalry renewal with USC at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum late Saturday night. Win, and the Irish were logically headed to the Champs Sports Bowl, Dec. 28 in Orlando to play an ACC team.
Lose and a 6-6 ND team was faced with sifting through leftovers of conferences who couldn't fill their designated allotment - many of which were games that were bad fits for the Irish.
In other words, it's BCS or dumpster dive.
The leftover bowls most likely to have been in play for a 6-6 Irish team or with a Champ Sports snub when regular-season play ends next weekend:
A Houston upset against Texas Tech late Saturday night would close the door on the Texas Bowl. A Georgia win over Georgia Tech would do the same with the BBVA Compass option.
Coaching numbers
Brian Kelly on Saturday night became the 15th first-year Notre Dame head coach to walk the sidelines in the all-time series with USC.
Coming into the game Irish first-year head coaches were 7-7 in their first meeting with USC. Lou Holtz was the last first-year head coach to upend the Trojans in the first meeting.
Holtz's 1986 squad finished up the season with a come-from-behind 38-37 victory. The Irish trailed 37-20 with just under 12 minutes left in the contest.
The other six coaches to knock off USC in their first matchup were Hugh Devore (1963), Joe Kuharich (1959), Terry Brennan (1954), Frank Leahy (1941), Elmer Layden (1934) and Knute Rockne (1926).
Bad to first
Looking for one of the best stories in college football this season? Take a gander at what's happening at Miami (Ohio).
Once the Oxford, Ohio, campus was the home to the "Cradle of Coaches." Guys like Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler and Ara Parseghian are all part of the Miami tradition.
Recently though, it's been a place where coaching careers went to die. Notre Dame grad and former Irish assistant coach Mike Haywood may be changing that trend.
The second-year head coach turned a 1-11 debut into an 8-4 (7-1 MAC) encore that will be capped by an appearance in the Mid-American Conference championship game on Friday.
"It's a great opportunity for our football team, when you look at where we were last year to where we are this year," Haywood told the Oxford Press.
" ... I really do think we're playing some of the best football we've played since we've been at Miami. The players are buying into the system, trusting and believing in themselves, their teammates and their coaches. Our coaches have just done a tremendous job. Our guys have gotten better the entire year."
A 23-3 win over Temple earlier this week, coupled with Kent State's upset of Ohio, allowed the RedHawks to earn the bid to the title game and likely a bowl berth.
"I didn't think it would happen this quickly," Haywood said. " ... Behind closed doors our goal this season was to be a bowl-eligible football team and we've far exceeded that. We had a five-year plan and we're in year four already. Things are going in the right direction."
Bad to ?
Fellow former Charlie Weis assistant, Rob Ianello, landed in the MAC one year after Haywood.
He can only hope for a similar script.
Ianello's Akron Zips (1-11, 1-7) almost lived up to their nickname, but upended Buffalo in their regular-season finale on Friday, 22-14. Buffalo is coached by former Brian Kelly right-hand man, Jeff Quinn.
Even with the late victory, which meant the Football Bowl Subdivision would be devoid of any winless teams this season. Akron recorded a school-record for losses. The previous mark was held by Gerry Faust, who went 1-10 in his final season (1994).
Good to mediocre
After recording a 12-0 regular season under Kelly and almost getting a chance to play for the national title, Cincinnati clinched bowl-ineligibility Saturday with its seventh loss of the season, 38-17, to Connecticut on Saturday.
The last time the Irish were better in even one defensive category heading into the USC game was 2002. The last time they held an upper hand in more than one was 2000.
No team in the FBS played more bowl-eligible teams this season.

Randy Shannon's firing was inevitable
The embarrassing 23-20 loss to the Bulls of the Big East was just one more glaring blemish the UM administration couldn’t ignore -- especially on a day when rival Florida State was basking in the glory of beating up on Florida and celebrating a trip to the ACC championship game in Jimbo Fisher’s first season.
In four seasons under Shannon, Miami failed to win the Coastal Division, has yet to win a bowl game, and is 3-4 against BCS opponents from the state of Florida. Meanwhile, it took one season under Fisher for the Seminoles to earn the title of state champs. It was only a matter of time before Shannon was held accountable at a program whose standard is five national titles.
None of Shannon’s 28 wins were all that memorable. Some of his 22 losses, though, were hard to forget.
Once again, Virginia handed the Canes one of their most embarrassing losses of the season. In 2007, it was the 48-0 loss in the final game at the Orange Bowl. This year, it was a 24-19 loss in Charlottesville to a team that had yet to win a conference game. There was also the 31-7 collapse last year at Virginia Tech.
The highlight of Shannon’s coaching career at Miami just might have been this year’s win over Butch Davis -- the first time he was able to beat Miami’s former coach since both took over their respective programs. Maybe it was the win over then-ranked No. 8 Oklahoma last year, but it wasn’t the same Oklahoma team without Sam Bradford.
The bottom line is that none of those 28 wins amounted to anything in the postseason. And Miami fans have grown tired of it. Week after week this season, somebody takes a snapshot of an empty Sun Life Stadium and it makes its way around Twitter. It’s been embarrassing to the program and the ACC, but it’s not like Shannon has given the fan base much to cheer about.
This failure, though, doesn’t fall squarely on Shannon’s shoulders. It also falls on the administration who hired him, and it’s up to athletic director Kirby Hocutt and university president Donna Shalala to get it right this time.
It wasn’t a complete disaster.
Shannon changed the perception of the program. He instilled discipline, and leads all active BCS coaches with a 977 lifetime APR average. Those things count, but fans want to see Miami leading the BCS standings more. Shannon was given a contract extension prior to this season with the expectation that a championship of some form would be won either this year or next. The expectation was that he had the talent to do it and had finally found some stability at the coordinator position.
Instead, nothing changed. The loss to South Florida only magnified that.
Everything from Shannon's ability to lead to his ability to coach has been questioned during his tenure. Miami's administration just decided to answer sooner than later.

Kyle Brotzman Misses as Nevada Defeats Boise State
Brotzman’s blunders ended Boise State’s 24-game winning streak. They also destroyed the team’s hopes for a national title.
Boise coach Chris Petersen’s was still in shock when approached by news after the game. He said his team missed many critical plays, not just two kicks. “One play can win a game but one play can’t lose it.” Boise State’s hopes for a third BCS bowl since 2006 are destroyed, and Nevada achieved the biggest upset of the week in college football.

“A lot of people are not so much antagonistic,” Harding said. “(They’re) just nervous. They want to know if (the amphibian or reptile) is going to hurt them.”
Educating people about how to care for these animals as pets was another purpose of the event, Harding said.

It is perhaps, for no valid reasons that men of science feel low in the presence of men of learning. There is general feeling that
this type of education is of the highest importance.
The prosperity of a country depends on its ability to trade with other countries and export the maximum quantity of its products.
Internal competition is going on a large scale and every country is trying to outdo the other is commerce and exchange.Pakistan is
is rich in raw material but is badly lacking in technical skill required to turn that raw material to finished products. The
country, which aims at wealth and prosperity, should possess a large number of trained technicians.
This is an industrial age. Most complicated machinery is installed to cater for the needs of modern society. In order to become
useful members of the society,we have to learn some art.Agriclture is no longer the main profession that earnthe livelihood for
the mass population of the world.Pakistan is not sufficiently advanced in technical education. In all the progressive countries
of the world, great importance is attached to technical education.America,Russia, and the United Kingdom are first-rate powers
of the world. Why?It is because they are technically and scientifically more advanced than other countries.
Government is taking interest and agricultural and agricultural and engineeringvschools and colleges are being established here
and there. But mere government efforts won,t do in this field, people themselves should also exert to create greater facilities for
technical education.Manual labour should not be looked down upon.People should realize the dignity of labour.
In the end it must be said that general education is as much essential as technical education. One should not be encouraged at the
cost of the other. If one teaches us how to earn our living, the other teaches us how to live.Education must prepare men not not only
to earn their livelihood but also to be good citizens and to be gentle. Our enthusiasm for technical education must not lag behind. It
is our pressing need to become more civlized human being.

THE DIGNITY OF LABOUR
1. By labour we generally mean work done by hands.
2. There is nothing shameful in becoming a skill-worker.
3. In Islam all human beings are equal.Islam does not allow distinction on the basis of profession.
4. In Islam honest work of all kinds is worth respecting.
5.We should give equal status to the labour class in the society.
By labour we generally mean work done by hands.Unfortunately, this word is used in a negative sense. There is nothing shameful in it.
People having narrow mind refer the word labour to professions adopted by carpenters, masons and their assistants. They also associate them
with lower middle class of society. As a matter of fact these professions are benefactors of society. They play a vital role for peace and
prosperity of our life. For example ,mason builds a house to shelter us ,a tailor sews clothes to cover our body and a farmer tills the
soil to feed us.
We should not ignore that no office peon is employed in any office of the advanced countries because in those countries every
office worker feels no shame in doing the peon work himself. We are Muslims and unfortunately we feel it below our dignity.
If we read the history of nations like japan, china,Germany etc,we shall leam that their economic development is based on attaching
dignity to manual work.On the other hand our pakistan engineer will feel it below his dignity to join two wires and will say that
it is the work of his subordinate mechanic.
In Islam all human beings are equal.Islam does not allow distinction on the basis of profession. The Holy Prophet(peace be upon him)
used to work with his own hands. He carried bricks for the construction of mosque and did not feel ashamed in mending his outworn
shoes. In Islam honest work of all kinds is worth respecting.Even a sweeper deserves respect. In Islam work is worship.
We have misuse the concept of labour and this is the major cause of backwardness in our country. If we want to improve our economic
condition,we should give equal status to the labour class in the society.

Happy Thanksgiving — Our Thanksgiving Message
Wednesday, November 24, 2010
Well, friends, tomorrow’s the big day. Thanksgiving. It’s my very favorite holiday and I think it’s because Thanksgiving has somehow managed to maintain its integrity in an age when most special days are commercialized to the point of caricature. Uniquely unadulterated, Thanksgiving has never kowtowed to Hallmark executives or any other entity for that matter.
Margaret Wheeler Johnson, editor extraordinaire: After a scare a friend’s family is going through, I’m thankful for health. I feel so lucky that even though I’m 28 and spend Thanksgiving a thousand miles from my parents, I’m as close to them as ever — see you at Christmas, Mom and Dad! I’m grateful to know the post-turkey coma is all in my mind—thanks, Heather. And I’m so thankful for the community I’ve found at Babble and Strollerderby.
Joe, our social media guru: I’m thankful that both my grandmas are still celebrating Thanksgiving with their families in the year 2010. I’m thankful that three Thanksgiving football games are being televised in New York this year. I’m thankful that my dad will have a deluxe wine list, and that I’ll take home enough leftovers to eat for several weeks.
Danielle: I am grateful for the day-in and day-out safety of my husband while he volunteers his time to keep the public safe. I am thankful for my children for teaching me to live life to the fullset. I am thankful for our surprise baby #3 who has already changed our lives in so many ways. I am thankful for my parents and family for being such a large and amazing support system.
